My Motivation

I have three beautiful girls I have the honor and great responsibility to care for and mother. Endocrine related diseases run in my family. We have Type I and II diabetes, hypo and hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia, and a host of other diet related diseases as well. If I can plan and prepare meals that will protect their health, while improving mine, then whatever effort is required of me is worth it.

Whatever feelings of being robbed blind at the register when I pay more for healthy food than for the junk will be worth it. My being a couch potato time flying out the window as I have to actually prepare meals from fresh ingredients an hour earlier than I normally did will be worth it.

But I'm not all noble. This endeavor has selfish roots, as well. I have reached the point where I am simply not willing to just live with my symptoms anymore. I'm striking back. I counted on health care professionals to give me the tools I needed to live a full life. I've felt little better than a zombie for too long. I feel let down by the specialists I sought advice from on how to feel better.

Finally, I'm doing this for my friends. As I've been active on Facebook, posting some of my findings, the common theme among friends is, "I didn't know." Few there are who really 'know'. And it is incredibly frustrating that the information is out there, but not all in one place for one of the diseases finally being properly diagnosed. It's no wonder we just live with our symptoms. This is hard work, researching and finding applicable, credible information. Hypothyroidism is one of the most mis- and under-diagnosed diseases. I can remember feeling depressed, exhausted, and foggy as far back as when I was fourteen years old. The more women I meet, the more I realize just how far-spread this disease is. And there's more we can all be doing to feel better, and live fuller, happier lives. I just want to help in my own way.

  2. Natural thyroid supplements have changed my life -- from 16 hours/day in bed to being an active med school student. I used this for my Hashimoto's and now continue to use it post-thyroidectomy. I only use the desiccated bovine supplements . Talk to your doctor about using it. My doctors only prescribe the name brand for me because it is important to have constant thyroid hormone levels.
